24 Hours of Le Mans 2019 Updates

What is 24 Hours of Le Mans

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is one of the most elite car races in the world. It is a part of the triple crown of car racing as well. This race is the longest race and the winner is the var that has the most laps at the end of the 24 hours. The race is held in June every year and it is in Le Mans, France.

This race is a mixture of public roads and track. There are roads that are closed off just for the racing. Each car will go up to 205 mph. This will be the 87th running of Le Mans. This is an endurance championship. This is a very exciting event, and many come from all over the world to witness this race at least once in their lifetime.

2020 Le Mans Cars

There are many different cars that participate in this race. In fact, the race has great cars that are made for this long endurance race too. In February of this year, the first 42 cars were unveiled. Then on March 1, there were 18 revealed cars. There are also 10 reserves that will be a part of the race.

There are 4 cars that are driving for Porsche this year. Corvette Racing will be returning again for this race too. The Formula One world champion, Jenson Button will be racing. There will be cars from Nissan, Ferrari, BMW, Ford (the first time racing a GT customer team), British RLR Msport, Rebellion R13-Gibson, ENSO CLM Nissan, Toyota Hybrid, ORECA Gibson, Aston Martin, Porsche 911, and more. These cars are made solely for the 24 hours of Le Mans.

2020 Le Mans Drivers

The drivers have finally been revealed.  There are officially 62 cars that are entered in the race. This is the largest group of drivers that this race has ever seen. This is surely going to be exciting.

Here are some of the drivers who will be racing soon. Paolo Ruberti, Oliver Webb, and Tom Dillman will be on LMP 1 in the ENSO CLM P1/01-Gibson. Aston Martin has not confirmed all drivers, but they have Darren Turner and Jonathan Adam.

Darren Turner is on the team with Nicki Thiim and Marc Sorensen in the #95 Vantage GTE. Jonathan Adam is with Alex Lynn and Maxime Martin in the #97.

There are some great drivers this year and they are ready to see how this one turns out.

Circuit

This race’s circuit is named Circuit de la Sarthe. It was first built in 1923 and also raced the same year. There are 38 turns in this circuit. This is the longest track in the world. The length of the circuit is 13.629km, which is 8.469 miles. This is per lap. The lap record is 3 hours, 17 minutes, and 47 seconds. This record was achieved by Andre’ Lotterer. He drove an Audi. This was in 2015 and it was under Audi Sport Team Joest. The winners in 2018 were Sebastien Buemi, Kazuki Nakajima, and Fernando Alonso. They drove for Toyota Gazoo Racing.

History

The history of this race is absolutely fascinating. Porsche has won the most races at 17. Audi has 13 of these races, and Ferrari has won a total of 9. There have been times when the speed record has been broken, these are rare, however. It started out as a 10.7-mile course. Early races were dominated by the French. Then the UK and Italy began winning. In 1966-1980, was considered the golden age of racing.  There was even a movie starring Steve McQueen called Le Mans.

There have been fatalities and tragedies at the Le Mans, but they have changed up the rules, so these things do not happen as often. If you can go, it’s a great thing to cross off the bucket list. It is pure entertainment and fun.
